Bringing hope and joy at Halloween
Our Light Party this year will take place on Friday 30th October, the day before Halloween.
Expect an evening of crafts, dancing, games and lots of fun, encouraging the children to celebrate light, hope and Jesus together!
If you would like to be part of our team of helpers for the Light Party, contact Lindsey at lindsey@christchurchnewport.co.uk
The reason for the earlier date is so that families have the opportunity to take part it Light the Night on Halloween. For many of us, our response to Halloween is to turn all the lights off and pretend we're not in. Perhaps this year we could see it as an opportunity to share hope with those who come and knock on our door!
Rather than sending our children out trick-or-treating, we’re encouraging them to give to others. (Don’t worry, they’ll still get plenty of sweets!) For example, we might:
- put lights around the drive
- have a sign in the window saying ‘Jesus is the Light’
- give out sweets, glow sticks and little gospel story bags
- make hot chocolate for tired parents!
- chatting to neighbours and simply being present!
Perhaps you could join other church families that live near you and decorate a driveway together!? Also, just a reminder that there’s no expectation to be involved. Every community and family is different and you know what would work best for your family.
Halloween is an opportunity to show our children and other families, whatever way we engage this year, that there is a better story. We have Jesus – the Light of the World. His death and resurrection are greater, stronger and brighter than anything that might make us scared.
