What happened at the Discoverer's Dinner Do?
On Friday 11th July, Christchurch Kids hosted the Discoverers Dinner Do—a special evening for our Discoverers (children in school years 5 and 6) and their parents.
During the evening, we introduced an exciting new curriculum series created by Foundation Worldview. This valuable resource equips children with an understanding of how and why we read the Bible—preparing them well for their transition into The Bridge and our Teens ministry in September.
It was a fun and engaging evening where we began to explore how and why Christians read the Bible and how understanding the Bible’s overall message helps us make sense of it when we read it. We shared delicious pizza and plenty of conversation, even though it was an incredibly hot evening and we were all melting!
We are grateful to the families who attended and helped make the evening special. We loved seeing the enthusiasm and curiosity with which our Discoverers engaged.
“I enjoyed learning about the timeline of the Bible, and loved the pizza too!” (GS age 10)
“I loved the evening because the pizza was delicious and there was loads of fun stuff. I especially liked the game where we put the Bible stories in order!” (MC, age 11)
As part of the event, each child also received a gift pack containing two resources:
Table Talk for Families – Designed to help families read the Bible together. Each entry includes a short Bible passage, questions to get everyone talking, and a simple prayer. Perfect for dinner time, bedtime, or whenever suits a family’s routine.
XTB (Explore the Bible) – A devotional especially for children to use on their own. It includes fun puzzles, questions, and guided Bible readings that help children engage with Scripture in an accessible and meaningful way.
Children who weren’t able to attend the Dinner Do also received this gift.
“The Dinner Do really helped me read the Bible and understand what it means. Something that really helped me was the little Bible activity book, which was given to everyone there. It really helps me to know what the Bible is all about and to understand God's word”. (AR age 11)
As part of the transition into our Teens ministry, Discoverers were also invited to join a Friday night Junior Teens session, giving them a taste of what’s to come in September. They were warmly welcomed by the Teens team and enjoyed a fun-filled evening, including a hilarious game of human Hungry Hippos that had everyone laughing!
We’re excited for all that’s ahead as our Discoverers move into the next phase of their journey through our Christchurch Kids and Christchurch Teens ministry. Thank you again to everyone who made this evening a success!
