Great is my Shepherd - new song
During our time of worship this Sunday, we’ll be singing a new, in-house, song, Great is my Shepherd.
Based on Isaiah 40, John 10, Luke 15 and, of course, Psalm 23, it tells the story of a Shepherd who left 99 in search his wandering sheep. When he find him, he’s filled with joy and carries him back to the fold, where he’s then restored, protected and provided for all the days of his life.
You won’t find it on Spotify! But you can read the words and listen to a rough demo below.
Take a listen!
Great is my Shepherd he leads me to life
Though wanting I’ll need not for he’s at my side
My soul he’ll replenish no evil I’ll fear
When trouble brings its sleepless nights
The morning is near
Your Word will defend me you offer your peace
Though sorrows are certain
You promise they’ll cease
I’m stumbling through weakness
Your goodness pursues
You led me to the valley and
You’ll get me to the feast
Great is my Shepherd who leaves ninety nine
In search of this wanderer with mercy divine
He stretched into darkness to gather me in
I’m caught by everlasting arms and lifted from sin
The shoulders that bear me have carried my cross
A burden so great but he suffered the cost
Rejoicing to rescue for glories untold
As heaven joins the Saviour’s joy
I’m resting in his fold
Praise Praise Christ our Shepherd
Praise Praise Christ the Lamb
Great is my Shepherd who laid down his all
To anguish and sorrow of his own accord
By name you have called me my life now I bring
To you alone my rescuer my joy and my King
You lay at the gate to keep evil at bay
Whoever shall enter forever you save
A thousand millennia will never suffice
To marvel at your faithfulness
And wondrous sacrifice
Below is a recording for you to listen to ahead of our gathering if you would like to.
